Student Loans and Outmigration


NJBIA recently released the
Post-Secondary Education Equation update. The updated statistics found that young
adults are leaving New Jersey at a staggering rate. Between 2007 and 2017
New Jersey experienced a net loss of nearly 206,000
young adults 18 to 34. Forty-three percent of New Jersey’s first-time
post-secondary students leave the state to receive their education. Of the
students who receive their post-secondary education in New Jersey,
61 percent of the class of 2017 graduated with some sort of debt, those
who graduated with loans had over $32,000 worth of debt. For more
