TAKE A LOOK AT THIS MAP. IT’S THIS AREA RIGHT THERE ON OBSERVATORY HILL, AND AARON MARTIN LEARNED HOW THE CITY IS HELPING PEOPLE WHOSE HOUSES WERE CONDEMNED HERE. AARON, GOOD EVENING. REPORTER: GOOD EVENING. ONE OF THE WAYS THEY’RE HELPING IS THEY NOW OWN THESE PROPERTIES, INCLUDING THIS HOUSE RIGHT HERE, EVEN THE HOUSE THAT’S DOWN THERE. YOU CAN SEE THERE’S PRETTY MUCH ONLY DEBRIS THAT’S LEFT OVER, AND THAT’S BECAUSE IT’S TOO DANGEROUS FOR CREWS TO COME AND REMOVE IT DUE TO THE UNSTEADY HILLSIDE. TONIGHT WE’RE LEARNING THE CITY NOT ONLY OWNS THESE PROPERTIES BUT ARE FINALIZING PLANS TO MAKE SURE IT DOESN’T HAPPEN TO ANY OTHER HOMEOWNERS. THIS IS WHERE ED PLANNED ON RAISING HIS SON. REPORTER: TODAY PITTSBURGH CITY COUNCIL APPROVED A PLAN TO BUY THE CONDEMNED HOUSES. THE DEPARTMENT OF MOBILITY AND INFRASTRUCTURE IS ALSO FINALIZING PLANS TO BUILD A RETAINING WALL, A PROJECT THAT WILL BEGIN IN THE SPRING. THAT’S EXPECTED TO STABILIZE THE HILLSIDE AND PREVENT OTHER NEARBY HOMES FROM A SIMILAR FATE. AS FOR ED, HE’S IN THE PROCESS OF LOOKING FOR ANOTHER HOUSE WITH HIS SON. HE’S UNSURE HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE, BUT HE HAS A CERTAIN TYPE OF HOME HE’S LOOKING FOR. THEY’RE ALL ON FLAT LAND. NO MORE HILLS. REPORTER: NOW HE’S A FEDEX DRIVER AND SAYS HE’S RECEIVED
